Hailing from Chihuahua, Mexico, ceramics designer Perla Valtierra founded Valtierra Cerámica, a female-owned brand in Mexico. The brand has two workshops in Bajío where Valtierra and her team of artisans and creatives are committed to producing high-end handmade ceramics that are "daily objects of quality that lend themselves to the sensibilities of everyday use." Inspired by her need to be an "aesthete--an eternal explorer of objects, craft, and diverse cultures--Valtierra trained, practiced, and lived in Belgium, France, and Japan" to gain knowledge in making the "best-handcrafted goods." In addition to exploring international cultures, Valtierra has "practiced traditional pottery in various communities of Mexico, including Zacatecas, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca." As a result of extensive training and research, Valtierra sees herself as a ceramist apprentice, which has led to her continuous experimentation with mixing clays and using different glaze techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
